Istanbul - In Turkey, a judge has ordered and arrested twelve people that are being accused of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
They would have expressed the insults during a campaign meeting of opposition candidate Muharrem Ince, in the run-up to the presidential and parliamentary elections of Sunday, which were won by the current head of state.
The twelve suspects are now in pre-trial detention in Izmir awaiting trial. In that city Ince had organized a campaign meeting with tens of thousands of people present last Thursday. The western coastal city is considered the bastion of the main opposition party, the center-left CHP.
